Where has the year gone? It feels like we were just writing “New Year Resolutions” and now here we are getting ready for our Holiday Shopping! Now is not the time to have an extensional crisis about how fleeting time is and how it seems to be slipping away from us. Now is the time to get your game face on so you can knock out your shopping list! We have put together a short Survival Guide to help you make the most out of your shopping trips this holiday season.
Survival Guide Tip 1: Make a list and stick to it!
It can be easy to impulse shop when you get into your local mall; seeing all the bright shiny displays, cool gadgets and sales associates that point out “how great it would be bundle the mug you came in for, with a new coffee machine," because everyone’s childs’ teachers’ aide needs to have the latest coffee machine.
Holiday shopping without a list can quickly turn into an overwhelming exercise that winds up costing you far more than you wanted to spend and taking much longer than you had intended. To survive this holiday, we recommend making a list. Write down all the people you plan to buy a gift for, write down what you’d like to purchase for them as well as the budget for their gift and stick to it!
For us we like to always add an extra item to our lists we call it the “ILIF” or the I-Like-It-Factor. The ILIF must have a strict budget and there can only be ONE ILIF allowed on your shopping list. We are human, we are not immune to the gorgeous window displays or the friendly salespeople; so we allow ourselves one ILIF purchase.
We can’t know everything that will be on sale, on trend or in demand this holiday season so this allows us to scratch the itch of impulse shopping while also staying on budget!
Survival Guide Tip 2: Get an early start and if you can have a shopping buddy.
The earlier you are able to get started with your holiday shopping the better. This will help you to avoid stress during the holidays as there are so many office functions, community gatherings, school events and family traditions that have to be observed. The last thing you want to do after dealing with all that is to hit a crowded mall and wade through a sea of people.
So, with your trusty list in hand, head over to your local mall and start checking names off your list. It’s always a good idea to bring a shopping buddy with you. This person can help you to stay on target with regards to time in the mall and they can help you if you just can’t decide if you should get the blue one or the green one! Plus, they can watch your bags when you need to go to the washroom, so you don’t have to lug all that with you in there!
Survival Guest Tip 3: If you can buy it online and ship it to your house then DO IT!
Our last survival guide is to do some online shopping wherever you can. It’s such a great time saver because you can shop online any time of the day or night. You can even shop in your PJ’s while everyone else is asleep. The best part about online shopping is that your gifts come directly to you!
What is more convenient than a gift that will come directly to you so you can skip the mall entirely?!?
At SoftMoc we even offer several different shipping options. FREE shipping on all eligible orders to most destinations in Canada that will arrive within 1-4 business days. We also offer FREE In-Store Pick-Up so you can order online, have you order shipped to your local store where you can dash in pick up your order and dash out. The benefit of online shopping is it’s great for those people that don’t like crowds, or can’t imagine spending a whole day walking from store to store in a mall. We love the convenience and the ability to have everything delivered right to you!
